Black Gold is Oct 22nd!

Updated: Oct 8, 2022

Every year Affinity hosts a special event that uplifts Black LGBTQ artists while raising funds for our programs. For years we had Jazz in July, a summer celebration of Black women in Jazz music and culture. For the past several years Black Gold has been a Casino night reminiscent of Blues dens where Black artist came together to shine and play. This years event "Black Gold: Casino & Jazz Gala" continues paying homage to vintage Black art forms and nightlife which special attention to LGBTQ artists whose work was prominent in the years following the Great Migration.

One hundred years ago, Black LGBTQ people, especially women like Josephine Baker, were engaging art to make the world a better place through joy, representation, and using their platforms to advocate for Black Americans.

Black Gold, is a dapper affair uplifting art, music, and activism from the roaring 1920s to today!

Travel back in time with us to the 1920s on Chicago's Southside where Black LGBTQ people gathered in the safety of art spaces like music dens and ballrooms to celebrate with community.

Join us on October 22nd at Gallery Guichard for an immersive experience that connects Black Queer communities past and present. This evening features live burlesque performances by Cruel Valentine, casino games, and music by DJ Rae Chardonnay to raise funds supporting Affinity's intergenerational services.
